Ashtanga Yoga Class Description


The practice is a vinyasa flow sequence designed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India (ashtanga vinyasa) to open the body and awaken the spirit. This practice focuses on synchronization of breath with the continuous flow of movement. A vigourous practice that builds heat, endurance, flexibility, strength and mental focus. Empower yourself and gain mental clarity while enhancing core strength and flexibility.

Modified Primary Series (1 hr)

Level 1

In this practice, students flow from one posture to another, synchronizing breath and movement. Beginning with sun salutations, standing poses, and balancing postures, then moving on to seated forward-folds, twists, backbends and inversions. Exertion may range from mild to vigorous and emphasis may vary depending on the level in the individual. Beginners and those with a therapeutic self-practice welcome.

Vinyasa I (1 hr)

Level 1/2 Class

Beginners, intermediate and advanced students are all able to participate in this class. A different and fun variation for postures are provided through modification. Faster paced class. Not recommended for complete beginners.

Full Primary Series (1 1/2 hr)

Level 2

Experience the full sequence of ashtanga vinyasa's primary series, offering further asanas to enhance and round out the Primary Series practice. This class usually moves at a faster pace and focuses on endurance and breath. Arm balancing, back bends, and inversions are included in this class. Modifications are possible for all poses.

Intermediate Vinyasa II (1 1/2 hr)

Level 2/3

Intermediate/Advanced Practice. Intermediate/ advanced students are those who need little guidance throughout this class which usually moves at a fast pace and focuses on endurance and might. Arm balancing, back bends, inversions and hand standing are common in this class.

Private Yoga
